The adidas Originals by Wales Bonner Spring/Summer 2023 “Land of Wood and Water” collection is available globally on June 9 via Confirmed, adidas’ website, and through select retailers. As for the SL72 Knit, Jamaica is honored once more with a knitted upper arriving in authentic hues of green or brown and orange. The Samba comes in either a formal nubuck take with leather stripes, or a playful silver leather upper with crochet stripes. Thus, adidas Originals officially presents Wales Bonner’s next Samba and SL72 Knit. While the clothing is stellar, it’s the shoes that have had sneakerheads in a chokehold as of late. The clothing develops, with metallic silver sparkling on an anorak and low-inseam shorts, while Jamaican icons like the Harrington jacket and flared trousers are given the adidas spin. Light teal tints a nylon tracksuit, cut slim on the bottoms and without sleeves on the top for a piece set for warm weather, while sweater vests and a knitted geometric roll neck bring in elements of our elders, perfectly paired with the footwear (but more on that later). In turn, Wales Bonner creates a summer-ready uniform underpinned by cultural nuances, informed by Jamaica’s landscapes. As seen during the designer’s SS23 runway show, the collection - titled “Land of Wood and Water” - is one that adapts vintage silhouettes and draws on both iconic Caribbean colors and contemporary touches.
